Thirteen years ago, I first ran as a Team HUM member and completed my first marathon. Since, I have ran 6 more marathons (5 total as a Team HUM member), a few 5 K's, a team relay, and a half marathon. All as I proudly represented Helping Up Mission and Back On My Feet. This year I am running the half marathon. Just over two years ago I had a SLIP or as they say: Sobriety Lost its Priority. Subsequently, I left the Mission. These were the most miserable two years of my life. My life was spiraling out of control. I was a complete mess. I spent time in jail, couldn't hold down a job, my health was diminishing, and my personal life was in jeopardy. Left with only a couple alternatives, I asked my wife, Lisa, to take me to the Mission. On April 3, 2022, with only the clothes on my back, I stepped through the doors, again, as a broken man. I was greeted with open arms and a man by the name of George settled me in. The next several days were foggy as I got to sleep things off. They took care of me and for that I am grateful. I will be completing my GSRP period and graduate (again) on October 7, 2022. I am so blessed for Helping Up Mission, the folks that run it and the ones that took care of me. I am especially grateful to God for giving me yet, another chance. God bless you all, Barry
